Gob Get A Good Reaction From Avril Fans Australia's Beat magazine caught up with Gob guitarist Theo
Goutzinakis who talked about the band's current tour with Avril
Lavigne. "Avril is cool," Goutzinakis said. "We're pretty busy on
tour but when we have time we take our boards out and have a skate.
She's actually a pretty good skateboarder. I was impressed." He also
talked about how the band hooked up with Lavigne on tour and the
positive reaction the band has received from Avril's fans. "We got
asked out to tour with Avril and so far it's been great," Goutzinakis
explained. "At first we were a little worried that Avril's audience
wouldn't understand where we were coming from but the feedback so far
has been all positive."
Avril Lavigne Deserves Rock Radio Airplay
Bernard Zuel of the Sydney Morning Herald reviewed Avril Lavigne's
concert at Entertainment Centre on Tuesday (June 3). Zuel argues that
the singer should be played on rock stations after seeing her
perform. "Those stations are happy to play Blink 182, Frenzal Rhomb,
Sum 41 or any of a dozen interchangeable bands who play what has
become known as California punk," he argued. "What's the difference?
Those bands all wear the same clothes, talk the same 'we're rebels'
talk and play the same type of songs, all sounding as polished as any
MOR band, even if the guitars are thrashed a bit harder. They're
about as punk, about as 'real', as Mariah Carey. Could the difference
be that Lavigne is a girl and her audience is made up primarily of
girls, often pre-teens?"
Avril Lavigne The Unlikely Diva
Rock chick Avril Lavigne insisted on diva-esque backstage demands for
a recent TV appearance in Australia.
Following in the footsteps of famously demanding superstars Jennifer
Lopez and Mariah Carey, the Sk8r Boi singer insisted backstage staff
supply her with ten different types of orange juice and water -
stored at a range of different temperatures.
Awkward Avril also asked for "a fruit tray with cheese (not just
oranges and bananas)... be creative please".
Shania Twain talks about Avril
Recording artist, Shania Twain, recently shared her thoughts on
Avril. Avril had the chance to perform on stage with Shania before
she got her record deal as part of a prize for winning a local radio
station's contest. "After Avril came up onstage with me and did her
thing, a relative of mine who knows her family kept in touch with me
on her progress," says Shania. "It's been extraordinary to follow all
the record-breaking that she's achieved over the last few years. It's
just been great watching her succeed. She's a real Canadian girl, and
I sincerely wish her well."
Avril Lavigne Wants To Cuddle A Koala Bear
Avril Lavigne tells the Herald Sun her mission was to "cuddle a koala
bear" while in Australia. "I love them and also kangaroos. I always
watch them on television wildlife shows back home when I can,"
Lavigne said. "One of the things I asked for when I knew I was coming
here was a meeting with a koala."
Avril Lavigne Benefit Single Raises ,000 To Date
5/22/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Avril Lavigne's take on the Bob Dylan
classic "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" has helped to raise more than
,000 on behalf of the people of Iraq.
The song appears on the benefit album Peace Songs, which is released
by the non-profit organization, War Child Canada. Monies raised from
sales of the disk will be donated to help fund Iraq's hospitals, and
to clean up the nation's schools.
Reports Avril Lavigne fears she's on the verge of a breakdown because she finds herself fighting off tears in interviews. "I don't event know what that is," she admits. "There have been so many moments when I'm in the middle of an interview and I feel like I'm about to burst into tears because I can't answer one more question."
AVRIL IS NOT A PUNK
Avril Lavigne tells Heath McCoy of the CanWest News Service that
she's bothered by the backlash from critics and hardcore punk fans
who resent her image as a punk-pop hero. "I never called myself punk
so don't be mad at me and don't hate me cause I'm labelled punk," she
says, sourly. "It's the media who said that. Maybe people see an
edge. I mean, I'm not the typical bubble-gum pop girl and my music's
a bit harder, so people labelled me that way. But it's not me. ...
I'm clearly not punk and I don't claim to be." So how would she
describe her music? "I consider myself to be a person," she says. "I
don't like to stick labels on myself. That's so stupid."
AVRIL ROCKS - WE ALL KNOW SHE DOES
Rob Williams of the Winnipeg Sun was on hand at the Winnipeg Arena on
Monday (April 21), where Avril Lavigne performed before a sold out
crowd of 11,500. He writes, "Live, the music comes across a little
heavier and grittier than on her overproduced album, helping to
improve the material slightly, while still showcasing her powerful
pipes which act as a vessel for her less than stellar voice."
Williams rated the show 4 out of 5 stars
AVRIL PRESENTS A CHEQUE FOR ,000
Avril Lavigne took time out of her North American Tour yesterday to
visit Home Hardware's semi-annual Dealer Market in St. Jacobs, ON and
present a cheque for ,000 to The Hospital for Sick Children
Foundation. The funds were raised from the sale of Napanee Home
Hardware t-shirts, made famous by Avril's January appearance on
Saturday Night Live
WE HAVE AN ANGRY AVRIL
Mike Ross of the Edmonton Sun caught up with Avril Lavigne and asked
the singer about the growing backlash against her, including claims
that she's manufactured, and that she's claiming to be punk when
she's not. "That's what happens when someone gets really big. Then
everyone just tries to bring them down. Second of all, I never, ever
claimed to be punk, thank you," she laughed. "The media labelled me
as punk. That was because I was a little teenage girl who came out
and wasn't the typical pop bubblegum little act. So everyone just
like decided to label me punk because I was different and I had more
of edge. OK, I'm not made up. I write my own songs. I've been doing
music my whole life. I buy my own clothes. I say what I want. I make
my own decisions. People don't tell me what to do. They don't tell me
where to go. I do what I want to do. That's bullsh**!"
